About us / FAQs

What is the purpose of Green Knights MMC, Chapter 32? The purpose of this club is to promote: esprit-de-corps, safe riding, mentorship of inexperienced riders, and positive community impact for all Military & DoD riders stationed at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH or living in the surrounding areas. We're an international club with over 140 chapters, click on the image to the right for a better view of where they are.

What's the meaning of the back patch / colors? The horse represents the horsepower of our rides. The knight represents the old code, how our members are expected to act. The lightning bolt represents the striking power of the Armed Forces. The stars represent the original 13 colonies. The knight's shield represents the defense of our country.

What are the requirements to become a Knight (full patched member)? First of all, come out to a few of our socials and get to know us and we'll get to know you and your family. If you want to take the next step, you'll complete a membership application and turn it in to an officer of the club. To be eligible for full membership you must have a motorcycle endorsement, be either active duty military, reserve or guard member, military retiree, military dependant or civilian employee of the federal government (DoD, AF, etc). Please let us know if you have any questions about the requirements.

Is there a prospect period? Sort of. If you have been riding for less than a year and want to join, you'll become a Page (new rider member) before becoming a fully patched Knight. During your time as a Page, you'll be paired with a Knight Mentor for a certain number of hours of riding. Typically a Page will be accepted as a fully patched Knight after about 6 months.

Is there a PPE (personal protective equipment) requirement? Yes. Our mission as a club is safety and mentorship. If you are a patched member, you are required to wear a DOT approved helmet, gloves, long pants, and boots (above the ankle), in addition to all other state required clothing. Active duty members will comply with any other applicable rules outlined in AFI 91-207 (or service specific instruction).

Do I have to ride a certain type of motorcycle to join? No, we welcome all makes, models, and sizes of motorcycles / trikes as well as all experience levels of riders from those just thinking about buying their first motorcyle to those who have been riding for years.

What's the history of the Green Knights MMC? The Green Knights MMC is a 501(c)(3) organization that was formed back in late 1999 and formally recognized in 2000 at McGuire AFB, New Jersey. It was the idea of Adam Buehler with the assistance of base MSF instructor Jeff Richards to organize base motorcyclists for activities and to bring awareness to DoD riders and to individuals who do not ride.

Is this a "1%" club?  No, we're a family oriented club consisting of active duty military, reserve & national guard, military retirees, DoD and Air Force Civilians, and military dependants. We abide by all federal, state, and local laws. Spouses, children, friends, and family are welcome to ride with us and to attend our monthly socials. A little background about the term "1%" - This is claimed to be a reference to a comment made by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) in which they stated that 99% of motorcyclists were law-abiding citizens, implying that the last one percent were not law abiding.
